attracted attention because of the way it portrays president obama and the way it portrayed governor romney, showing president obama in one light and governor romney in another. tell us about the fallout from this. guest: had i been the photo editor of the newspaper, i would not have picked those photographs. i felt those photographs gave a message. if you look at the front page, you got a feeling the newspaper was trying to present a positive image of romney and of a negative image of obama. everybody i've spoken to has given me the same kind of feedback. it was a mistake for the newspaper to do that, a poor choice of gore made that decision. host: how much of the candidates visiting your state,, are the candidates visiting your state? how much attention is iowa getting on the ground? guest: all the attention we can handle. both candidates are here routinely several times a week, both of them, along with surrogates and along with their. running their there's not a single day that goes by in the state where we don't have a visit from a candidate, running mate, or significance forget. both c

at the other end of the specter. kind of in that gray area for president obama and also for governor walker. we just had a huge, fierce debate over the recall of governor walker. the economy and jobs were central to that debate. a lot of conflicting, police statistics. the bottom line is that sort of somewhat sluggish job growth, positive trends in manufacturing, but nothing that would i think either disqualify the president or insure his reelection. host: looking at individual people in wisconsin, how does the state breakdown when it comes to republicans, independents, democrats? guest: we don't have registration by party, so you just look at the political history. wisconsin as a swing state. it has voted democratic for president in every election since ronald reagan was on the ballot. a little misleading, though, because it is often extremely close, often very close to where the country is as a whole. it is the closest aide and the country into a dozen for, even closer in 2000. but you had this big blowout victory for president obama in 2008. democrats have tended to dominate the u.s. senate

have any questions, you have folks in the back wearing obama for america buttons -- you are all wearing obama buttons -- wearing obama for america buttons that can tell you how to do it. folks, the president had his third and final debate with governor romney and i had my one debate with congressman ryan. [cheers and applause] you know, that last debate, i was not sure whether governor romney was there to endorse obama or debate obama. it was kind of amazing. all of those things i heard him say before, i did not hear him say again. my grandfather from scranton used to say be where -- beware of the converted. he sure sounded converted, didn't he, during that debate? what happened to mitt romney? as my granddaughter might say, maybe casper the friendly ghost took him. i don't know. [laughter] look, i hear is the truth. they have made it very clear they do not have the same view on women's rights as we do. on women's health, they want to give the power back to the insurance companies were they can charge 50% more than men. when the governor was asked in the second debate, how do you feel a

governor romney was going to endorse president obama. we roman catholic say that boy had an epiphany. governor romney went from sank it was a mistake we did not leave 30,000 troops in iraq. he sounded like he was against the war from the beginning. i was amazed. he went from labeling russia last year as the single greatest geopolitical threats to the united states and even opposed the new gun control treaty that every republican said to push that, he said he would not have supported it. all of a sudden we can work with russia. you know that. did you hear that? i thought, turn that tv up. he is now putin's best friend. when as in the second debate what would you commit to, he said it depends. with these guys it depends on everything. it always depends who they're talking to or where they are. it depends on what the vote is. it always depends. i am from pennsylvania. the grandfather always said be aware of the convertists. one issue they cannot bring themselves to say they now agreed with us on was issues relating to women. think about it now. they are ready to jettison foreign-policy

allowed back into the city. >> reporter: president obama surveyed the area by air and on the ground. he met with governor christie. it will take time to clean up. the ball is rolling and the federal government is very much involved. reporting for abc2 news. >> for will look at all the incredible pictures you have sent in and the video of the damage from all over maryland, just head to abc2news.com/sandy. >>> real important reminder. many people may have power at home but there are a lot of traffic lights out. we caught quite a few drivers blowing through intersections with their lights breaking the law. police handed out tickets. when drives come to a light that's out this should be treated as a four way stop. if an officer is around, you could get a ticket because it is the law. >>> the baltimore humane society on nick codeem must needs your help. >> our power has been out since 3:00 on monday. we do not have phones or internet. one of our main generators went down. so we don't have heat either. we have a generator powering the kennel. >> aside from the outage, they're taking a financi

welcome president barack obama and governor mitt romney. gentlemen, your campaigns have agreed to certain rules and they are simple. they have asked me to divide the evening into segments. i'll pose a question at the beginning of each segment. you will each have two minutes to respond, and then we will have a general discussion until we move to the next segment. tonight's debate, as both of your know, comes on the 50th anniversary of the night that president kennedy told the world that the soviet union had installed nuclear missiles in cuba -- perhaps the closest we've ever come to nuclear war. and it is a sobering reminder that every president faces at some point an unexpected threat to our national security from abroad. so let's begin. the first segment is the challenge of a changing middle east and the new face of terrorism. i'm going to put this into two segments, so you'll have two topic questions within this one segment on that subject. the first question, and it concerns libya, the controversy over what happened there continues. four americans are dead, including an american ambass

with the popular governor chris christie. it's something he had to come back against. listen to this, governor christie responding to people who have been critical of his praise of president obama. >> there will be some folks who will criticize me for complimenting him. well, you know what? i speak the truth. that's what i always do. sometimes you guys like it. sometimes you don't. sometimes politicians like it. sometimes they don't. i say what i feel and what i believe. i'm just doing the same thing with the president of the united states. i do pinch myself every day. when i got out of marine one, i'm pinching myself. believe me. >> just learning right now that chris christie is going to give an 11:30 a.m. briefing, an update on what they're seeing in new jersey. i want to point out to everybody, because this is really surprising. chris christie was a wrecking ball of rhetoric at the rnc. a wrecking ball of rhetoric against the president and his leadership. now they are side by side and chris christie couldn't be more com complimentary of seeing the leadership the president represents. >> i d

obama at the time as well as governor romney coming through iowa. spending time with the editorial board. we've talked with the candidates, we've explored and scrutinized the platforms and their various positions. are there endorsements that matter, i think it do. it's part of our tradition. we take very seriousing, first in the nation status of caucus state. we take serious able to vet candidates. many of whom really not on the national radar screen until after they emerge from iowa. it's a place where you have formal interviews, formal meetings inquestions and answers and issues and campaigns. as well as very informal opportunity to sit down to talk about what's in front of us in terms of americans. what are the different positions for that. i do think our endorsement matters. we proudly spent a lot of time very diligent, very thoughtful and all of our conversations particularly the final one to make the decision to support governor romney. >> we talking to rick green the editor of the des moines register. let me ask you about that process. you had a television conversation that ran a

at home. that's the right path. so read my plan, compare it to governor romney's... and decide which is better for you. it's an honor to be your president... and i'm asking for your vote... so together, we can keep moving america forward. i'm barack obama and i approve this message. athat's what the plan georged allen supports... would cost our economy. newspapers called it "economically destructive." like allen's votes to give tax breaks to companies... that ship jobs overseas, his economic plan would... help big corporations, devastating the middle class. allen even voted against tax breaks for small businesses. virginia can't afford to go back to george allen. the democratic senatorial campaign committee... is responsible for the content of this advertising. look, the reason i'm in this race is there are people that are really hurting today in this country. and we face this deficit -- could crush the future generations. and republicans and democrats both love america but we need to have leadership -- leadership in washington that will actually bring people together and get the job

hard. president obama was in that area yesterday. governor romney is here in the milwaukee area today. kete happened in gree throughout the entire state, but you can imagine that the folks who are tied to the defense contracts will be leaning towards mney because it hits home for them. bottom line here in wisconsin, like many other states across this coury, jobs is the number one issue. >> the recovery here in nevada has beenott pl ithe country. 11.8% here in clark county. 12.3%. we're on top of the stratosphere here. this hotel and casino has poured more than $20 million into renovations in the last couple of years. they are optimistic that things are going to get better. they even added jobs, more than 100 in the last couple of months. and there are others smaller signs that things are getting better. that's the strip behind me, the big blue building to the left, that's 70% completed for more than a year. it cost $2.9 billion to get to this point so far. and it looks like they're going to get back to construction in the not too distant future. so people across nevada and here in la

the reservation they already had. ladies, back to you. >>> you be safe down there. president obama traveling to the garden state for an up close look at sandy's destruction. it comes as governor christofilakos tee is being praised for his compassion for the victims. >>> we were so afraid. >> snchl inaw(inaudible) >> president obama and mitt romney will be on the trail five days before the election. >> not much time. can you get any closer than this? this is the new fox news poll, national poll. 46 a piece. you saw 45-46. with a race that tight after the wake of hurricane sandy they will be back on the campaign trail. the president visiting nevada, colorado and wisconsin. mitt romney will be in virginia today after rallies yesterday in florida. he was pushing for early voters and storm release. >> a dollar extra send it to the red cross send it to those who are in harm's way. >> campaigns still fighting for independent voters. here is how the numbers stand in the fox news poll. >> they are still coming down on the romney side of the equation. we are seeing things tighten up a little bit. if y

president obama. >> yesterday i was with governor kasich and congressman ryan on the clip you showed, there was a good energy there, i was with congressman ryan and governor romney in canton. we had 10,000 people in a high school ball field in canton and great energy there and i think that governor kasich is doing a great job campaigning with governor romney and i believe a good synergy, imagine what we can unleash in ohio if week get government bureaucrats out of the way. the obama camp says we helped to save the auto industry in ohio and a lot of the jobs saved in ohio are as a result of us, what do you say to that? >> again, i believe we're doing well in ohio despite the headwinds. and one of the reasons we're bucking trends, we have oil and gas, and in the marseles and the utica shale formations and governor kasich and the legislature are opening up lands for drilling which is essentially creating jobs throughout the state in some of the most depressed counties, despite regulations and despite headwinds from washington. >> clayton: right. you know, it's interesting as you look at

, everyone. president obama, along with new jersey governor chris christie, will be touring parts of the jersey shore and devastation is immense and widespread. this morning we're in point pleasant beach, new jersey, this is an amazing scene. if you're familiar with this part of the jersey shore t looks nothing like it usually looks. take a look. you can see these traffic lights are all out. the force of the storm actually severed that one in half. what you see as you go through this area is mounds and mounds of sand. you can see mounds lining this street, that street is flooded. if we flip here a bit, this mound is about twice my height. what happened here during the storm was that sandy took the sand from the beach and just threw it inland here and now dozens of front end loaders have been gathering it up and pushing it to the side of the road so ultimately it can be shipped out of here. but governor christie says this will take a long time to get it where it needs to be but new jersey will come back. that's the latest from point pleasant beach, robert moses. back to you. >> eri

there and ohio is important. >> yeah. i think that today the storm will have some positive impact for obama because he's going to be moving through the state with governor christie, a symbol of bipartisanship that will help both of them and being presidential and dealing with the storm. that sort of thing always helps an incumbent. but i think on balance, it's going to be a negative for obama for a couple of reasons. one is the democrats rely on early voting. a lot of their vote is sort of machine vote, like nursing homes or like union halls. they'll put their people in a bus and move them to a polling place and get them out. they rely on early voting for that. and it will be hard to do that in pennsylvania, virginia and a couple of other places. the other thing which is more important really is that whenever conditions are averse, the voters that persevere are the motivated ones, the ones that really care and the polling shows there is a big gap in perseverance and caring and motivation between the republicans and the democrats this year. so i think in pennsylvania and ohio and virginia, t

fascinating. (laughter) and that's not all. obama who, as we all remember, was (bleep)ing asleep during the first debate was hitting romney left and right with the zingers. >> well, governor romney is right, you are familiar with jobs being shipped overseas because you invested in companies that were shipping jobs overseas. >> jon: boom! >> you mentioned the navy, for example, and that we have fewer ships than we did in 1916. well, governor, we also have fewer horses and bayonets. (cheers and applause). >> jon: bam! >> the biggest geopolitical threat facing america you said russia. not al qaeda, you said russia. and the 1980s are calling to ask for their foreign policy back. (laughter and applause). >> jon: well, that was a little hackie. i mean that was -- that was a it will roasty. i wouldn't (bleep) your foreign policy with margaret thatcher's (bleep), come on! hickory dickory dock, your geopolitical understanding can suck my -- (laughter) sorry. that's -- no, please don't because then i'll do it again some night. (laughter) so the president had a good night. must have felt pretty co
